Just mind your own business

Victoria Azarenka is seemingly fed up with certain journalists frequently asking players about retirement. Azarenka, who will be turning 34 in July, suggests there is no need to ask her about her retirement date as she will be the first to reveal the date when she decides it’s time to end her pro tennis career.

“I see a lot of people keep asking about retirement. Once they retire, it’s like, We miss them. Let’s not waste this time before everybody retires to talk about retirement. People will let you guys know when it’s time. Like you really should mind your business,” Azarenka said, per Reem Abulleil.

Azarenka still has the game to compete at the highest level

Azarenka, a two-time Grand Slam champion, reached the semifinal at this year’s Australian Open. En route to reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal since the 2020 US Open, Azarenka clinched some notable wins.

In the Australian Open quarterfinal, Azarenka ousted third-seeded Jessica Pegula in straight sets. After clinching a very notable win over Pegula, Azarenka couldn’t beat Elena Rybakina as the 2022 Wimbledon champion beat the Belarusian 7-6 (4) 6-3.

Even though Azarenka didn’t manage to win the Australian Open, it was still a very strong run that showed she still has the game to compete at the very highest level of tennis. After losing to Rybakina, Azarenka refused to be negative as she stated that it was simply a day when her game didn’t win.

“Time always is a good medicine I feel. I don’t really dwell too long on things. I feel like I’m in the state of mind where I can be a little bit more objective. I think what helps me now is not to take it, I did something bad or I’m this or that. I don’t take it as personal. It’s just a day that my game didn’t win,” Azarenka said.
