So honest about struggles, successes

World No 5 Caroline Garcia seemingly enjoyed very much reading Ashleigh Barty’s book. In late 2022, Barty’s book “My Dream Time: A Memoir of Tennis & Teamwork” was published. In her book, Barty gave a great and detailed insight into the highs and lows of her tennis career.

Garcia, who is 29 and one of the more experienced players on the WTA Tour, loved reading about Barty’s experiences. “Thank you @ashbarty for sharing your tennis life. Being so honest and open about the struggles and great successes you went through.

An inspiration. Miss to see you around mate,” Garcia wrote on Twitter.

Garcia enjoyed Barty’s book

In her book, Barty recalled her stunning meltdown from 2018 Wimbledon.

In the 2018 Wimbledon third round, Barty lost her cool during a loss to Daria Kasatkina. “This crisis has been brewing for months, remaining largely invisible to everyone but those in my inner sanctum, but now it spills over in the very public spotlight of the British grass-court season.

The issue is that my good is great, but my bad is horrible. When I’m winning, I look like a million bucks but when my tactics aren’t working, I lack the maturity to solve my own problems. I’m a 22-year-old highly trained professional athlete, but in this moment I decide on a public tantrum,” Barty wrote in her book.

In her book, Barty also wrote that she was disgusted “not just (at) losing the match and losing my s—, but losing my dignity too. I shun my closest supporters and cry myself to sleep that night, embarrassed and ashamed.” After that match, Barty realized it was definitely time for her to change certain things.

That moment turned out to be the turning point of Barty’s career as in the next couple of years Barty won three Grand Slams and reached the world No 1 spot. Last March, Barty announced a shock retirement from tennis at 25.
