Stressed out Matteo Berrettini shaking while watching brother in Acapulco

Matteo Berrettini was extremely stressed out while watching his brother Jacopo Berrettini in the Acapulco qualifying as the 2021 Wimbledon finalist was filmed literally shaking in the stands. This past weekend, 24-year-old Jacopo qualified for his first-ever ATP main draw after winning two qualifying matches in Acapulco.

In his Acapulco qualifying opener, world No 842 Jacopo recovered from a set down to beat Geoffrey Blancaneaux 0-6 6-4 6-4. In the Acapulco qualifying final round, Jacopo defeated Luca Darderi 6-2 6-4.

Jacopo Berrettini on the influence of his brother Matteo

When Matteo signed up to compete in Acapulco, he was also able to secure a qualifying wildcard for his brother.

After Jacopo qualified for his first ATP main draw, he opened up about his brother’s influence. “Without him [Matteo, none of this] would be possible. Not just for the [qualifying] wild card but for everything. He is my inspiration, he’s really a true champion and really a very good person.

For me he’s the most important person in my life. I really want to say thanks to him. It’s really nice to have him here and in general in my life,” Jacopo told the ATP website. Not just that Jacopo qualified for his first ATP main draw, he is also competing in the same ATP tournament with his brother for the first time.

For Jacopo, this is a dream come true because as kids they dreamed of one day being at this stage. “We were having fun. We had the dream [of becoming professionals], but just that. Not a goal, but a dream. And this now for us is still a dream.

It’s something that is crazy. Tomorrow we are going to play on the same day at one tournament. It’s so big. It’s still a dream,” Jacopo reflected. For the Berrettini brothers, this week in Acapulco will forever be remembered as one of the most special weeks.
