Tiger Woods will prepare for the Masters ’23


There will be no Tiger Woods at The Players Championship, the richest tournament on the 2023 PGA Tour, with a total prize pool of $25 million, scheduled for March 9-12 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After returning to the field at the Genesis Invitational, the Californian has chosen to skip The Players to better prepare for The Masters, the first men’s Major of the year which will return from 6 to 9 April in the USA, in Augusta, Georgia.

However, the other champions of the discipline will be on the field at The Players, from Jon Rahm to Rory McIlroy, for a stellar field that includes the presence of 43 of the best 50 in the world.

Woods is the son of Kultida Woods, a native of Thailand, and Earl Woods, a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army. Woods has two half brothers and one half sister from Earl Woods’ 18-year marriage to Barbara Woods Gary.

He was born in Cypress, California and grew up just north on the US West Coast in the greater Los Angeles area. His father gave him the nickname “Tiger” when he was born in honor of his friend Vuong Dang Phong, who had fought with him in the Vietnam War.

Woods attended Western High School in Anaheim and studied economics at Stanford University for two years before becoming a professional golfer. In 1996, together with his father, he founded the Tiger Woods Foundation, which takes care of the advancement and support of children and young people in the USA.From October 2004 to August 2010, Tiger Woods was married to former Swedish model Elin Nordegren.

The couple has a daughter (* 2007) and a son (* 2009). Since the divorce on August 23, 2010, both parents have custody of the children. In mid-March 2013, Woods announced on his Facebook account that he was in a relationship with alpine skier Lindsey Vonn.

On May 3, 2015, Vonn announced on her Facebook page that she and Woods had split. Woods has ancestry of African American, Native American, Chinese, Thai, and Dutch descent. Woods’ popularity is credited with raising interest in golf among non-white Americans as well.

Tiger Woods is a practicing Buddhist. On February 23, 2021, Woods had a serious accident in Rancho Palos Verdes while riding a Genesis GV80 of the sponsor whose Pga Tournament in Los Angeles he hosted over the weekend (Genesis Invitational 2021) on a known accident-prone section of the Hawthorne Boulevard lost control of his car and rolled over several times, knocking down a tree about 20 cm thick and being thrown over the two oncoming lanes. He had to be rescued from his car by rescue workers and suffered several open fractures from debris.
