Andy Murray aims deep Indian Wells run. I want to have deep runs in these events

Andy Murray says physically he is feeling his best in years as he is determined to get back to making strong Masters and Grand Slam runs. So far this season, there have been three matches in which Murray saved match points before ending on the winning side.

Most recently, Murray made the Doha final before falling short to Daniil Medvedev. In Doha, Murray clinched several tight wins, which gave him the confidence his fitness was at a great level. “I want to have deep runs in these events.

That hasn’t happened in a couple years. I do feel like I’m playing well enough to do that now. I feel like physically this is the best I’ve felt for a long time so if I do have to play three or four matches in a few days, I believe that I’m able to do that and still play at a high level.

Even 18 months or two years ago, when that was happening, I didn’t feel like I was recovering as well. [My] body [might’ve] been a bit sore and a bit tired, but I’ve worked really hard to get back to this point and I trust that I’m ready to have a good run at some stage,” Murray said, per the ATP website.

Murray returns to Indian Wells

In the past, Murray enjoyed lots of success on the Masters level, especially on the hard court Masters events. A bit surprisingly, Murray never managed to win an Indian Wells title during his best years.

However, Murray has always loved playing in the desert. “I’ve always enjoyed coming back here. At this stage of my career, you want to make the most of every chance you get to play in these sorts of events. You never know when it will be the last time.

Definitely try to take it all in,” Murray said. Murray’s best Indian Wells result came in 2009, when he ended as runner-up to Rafael Nadal in the final. Murray was also a semifinalist in Indian Wells in 2015.
