Chris Evert identifies why ‘mischievous’ Daniil Medvedev is great for tennis

Chris Evert showed her admiration for “mischievous little bad boy” Daniil Medvedev as the American tennis legend thinks the Russian is great for the game. Medvedev, 26, made his fourth consecutive final at this past Indian Wells Masters before losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

In Indian Wells, Medvedev delivered a bit of everything to tennis fans – from great tennis to quite interesting meltdowns and tantrums. Evert, a former 18-time Grand Slam champion, thinks Medvedev is drawing attention to tennis with his game and personality.

“I love him. I think he’s very charismatic. I thought he spoke very eloquently, and he speaks very well. He’s very likeable – he’s like a little kid on the court sometimes when he’s like a mischievous little bad boy. But I think it adds a lot of personality to the game of tennis, and he’s not afraid to wear his personality or his heart on his sleeve.

I think it’s good to have all those varieties. His game is wonderful to watch. At times, you can’t believe the shots that he pulls out of the hat. He’s very unpredictable in his shot-making. He’s got the power and he’s got the movement,” Evert told Eurosport.

Evert: Medvedev will try to bounce back after the Alcaraz loss

Before coming to Indian Wells, Medvedev won three consecutive titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai. But in the Indian Wells final, Medvedev stood no chance against Alcaraz as the Spaniard claimed a 6-3 6-2 win.

Evert expects Medvedev to address the way in which he lost to Alcaraz and do better next time. “He’s going to go back to the drawing board probably after this past match at Indian Wells and try to figure out another kind of game plan for Carlos, but his hands were tied.

There’s really nothing he could do. I think he’s great for the game. I’m a fan of his,” Evert added.
