Daniil Medvedev uses one win over Novak Djokovic as proof he can play well on clay

Daniil Medvedev is confident that he can play well on clay and used his Monte Carlo Masters wins over Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas as an example. At the 2019 Monte Carlo Masters, Medvedev defeated Tsitsipas 6-2 1-6 6-4 in the round-of-16.

After a win over Tsitsipas, Medvedev also upset Djokovic 6-3 4-6 6-2 to reach his first Monte Carlo semifinal. Djokovic and Tsitsipas are considered much better players on clay than Medvedev. “Talking about clay, again, I know that I can play well on clay.

I beat Novak once on clay. I actually beat Tsitsipas and Novak at the same tournament once, wow. That’s pretty good achievement on clay. But if on hard courts like here I feel like many of the matches I didn’t play my best tennis, but I managed to win them and the tournament.

Clay court is tougher for me. If I don’t play my best tennis, I can lose much easier. So yeah, hopefully I can be at my best on clay court season,” Medvedev said.

Can Medvedev continue his fine form during the clay season?

On Sunday, Medvedev defeated Jannik Sinner 7-5 6-3 in the Miami Masters final.

For Medvedev, it was his fifth consecutive final and his fourth title in the month and a half. But now the time has come for the clay season and for Medvedev to compete on his least favorite surface. On April 9th, the Monte Carlo Masters is starting and that’s where the Russian will be starting his clay season.

“It’s a pity it is clay season next up, but I am going to try. I am really happy with my results so far but it is not over. I have to believe on myself,” Medvedev said in Miami. It will be interesting to see if Medvedev can continue his strong form and reach his sixth consecutive final in Miami.
