Patrick Mouratoglou ‘certain’ Rafael Nadal will be ready for French Open

Coach Patrick Mouratoglou says Rafael Nadal definitely knows what he is doing and that’s why he is certain that the Spaniard will be fully ready come the French Open time. Nadal, 36, hasn’t appeared in any tournaments since picking up a hip injury during the Australian Open.

This week, Nadal announced his withdrawal from the Monte Carlo Masters. “He knows if there is one he can win, it’s this one, more than any other. So all his program, whatever he’s done since the Australian Open, his number one goal is to win Roland Garros.

So he will be ready. Rafa is a player that progresses match after match. He needs matches. The older he gets, the less matches he needs because the more he’s mastering his game. Most important for him will be movement, because it’s the base of his game.

Originally, a player who was defending a lot, he’s not anymore. He has developed a lot of weapons. But still, movement is the base of his game,” Mouratoglou said in a video uploaded on his Instagram.

Mouratoglou says Nadal knows what he is doing

In an official press release, Nadal said he was out of Monte Carlo because he “didn’t feel he was ready to compete without the risk of getting injured.” Nadal is now expected to start his clay season at the Barcelona Open, which starts on April 17th.

After Barcelona, Nadal is also expected to play in Madrid and Rome. For Nadal, the main priority is to be fully healthy when the time comes for the French Open. Last year, Nadal was dealing with a foot injury going into the French Open.

Still, Nadal was able to find a way to win a record 14th French Open title. It remains to be seen if Nadal can lift his 15th French Open title this year.
