International prospect Bilal Coulibaly declares for 2023 NBA draft

Bilal Coulibaly, a 6-foot-6 forward from Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A, declared for the 2023 NBA draft on Thursday amidst a productive season in France.

The news was first reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Coulibaly, 18, is averaging 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists on 35.3% shooting from 3-point range in 39 games this season. He started a bit slowly but improved as the season progressed and has put up some strong performances.

As one of the youngest players in the draft, Coulibaly has impressed on offense with his burst and ability to get downhill and finish at the rim. On the other end, his 7-foot, 3-inch wingspan has teams intrigued with his potential on defense.

Prior to playing with Metropolitans 92 this season, Coulibaly suited up with France in the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship. He averaged 7.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and one assist in seven games as France finished in fifth place.

With much of the basketball world focusing on Victor Wembanyama this season, teams had the opportunity to get an extended look at Coulibaly on Metropolitans 92. He is projected to be a late first-round pick given his potential on both ends of the court.

Once his season is over, Coulibaly will prepare for the draft in Dallas, Texas. He plans to remain in the draft, but will ultimately make a decision after participating in private workouts and interviews with teams upon arriving in the U.S.

He has until June 12 to withdraw from the draft.
