‘That is an outrageous dive’

When your place on the World Cup is on the line, players will try anything.

Aleksandar Mitrovic took a tumble in the penalty box when his side were 3-2 down against Switzerland in a bid to get his side back on level terms.

Mitrovic took a theatrical dive to try and win Serbia a penalty

The Fulham striker felt a tug on his shoulder and went down. However, his reaction was a little delayed and quite clearly a dive.

The referee waved away his appeals and play carried on.

talkSPORT co-commentator Courtney Sweetman-Kirk said: “Mitrovic is silly there. From that position, I don’t know why he’s playing for a penalty. He’s seven yards out.

talkSPORT commentator Adam Bridge added: “That’s an outrageous dive.”

The Serbia subs felt differently, however, and ran onto the pitch to remonstrate to the referee.
