Football news LIVE: Reasons behind Toney ban revealed, Lampard rues Chelsea ‘reality’, Ten Hag fears ‘serious’ Antony injury, Salah fumes at Liverpool top-four failure

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes chairman Daniel Levy could be the problem in the club’s next manager search.

Speaking about his old club’s current plight, he said on Drivetime:

“Maybe it’s the ambition of the club. They seem to miss out on key signings – they were in for Bruno Fernandes and lost out to Manchester United, they were in for Luis Diaz and lost out to Liverpool, back in the day they were in for Willian and he went to Chelsea. He had a medical at Spurs!

“What’s going on with Spurs, I don’t quite know, but something has to change.”

Asked if managers are being turned away after meeting with Daniel Levy, and then realising the lack of control they would have at the club, Bent replied: “It must be that.

“It’s a massive club, they’ve got the best stadium, the best training ground, they’ve got a top class group of players, but for whatever reason these managers don’t want the job.

“It must be something about the interview room. They meet with Daniel Levy and there’s something they don’t like and they turn away.

“I dont know if Levy and Spurs know what they want. They need to rebuild, to start again, but they’re so scared about being left behind that they’re like, ‘We need to get in a top manager now’.

“Do you rebuild, do you get in a proven winner now? They don’t know what to do, they’re caught between.

“I don’t think it’s a badly run club at all, I just think it’s the decision-making.”
