‘Shame on you’ – fan footage shows Lord’s members heckling Australia players after Jonny Bairstow’s controversial Ashes dismissal

A selection of Lord’s members made their feelings known to Australia’s players by heckling them with shouts of ‘shame on you’.

Day five of the second Ashes Test became particularly spiky when Jonny Bairstow was controversially run out for leaving his crease before the over was called.

Following the final ball of the over, Bairstow made his way to the other of the wicket to speak to Ben Stokes.

However the umpires had not actually called it and Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey seized his opportunity by quickly throwing the ball to send Bairstow’s bails flying.

While the 33-year-old was livid at what had happened, he had little leg to stand on due to the legitimate nature of the wicket.

Fans inside Lord’s were not best pleased as they booed the Australian team, while others chanted ‘same old Aussies, always cheating’ as the decision was confirmed.

But that animosity also spread to inside the pavilion, with members of Lord’s making their feelings known as well.

In footage captured inside the Long Room, members could be heard shouting ‘shame on you’, while others chanted ‘cheat’ as the Australian players made their way in at the break.

That frustration fueled England after the break as Ben Stokes went on a one-man mission to bring the Test back into their control with an impressive score of 155.

However it was Australia who secured victory in the second Test, taking their lead to 2-0 for the series so far.
