Rickie Fowler‘s Rocket Mortgage Classic victory can be attributed mostly to his coach, Butch Harmon. While there was excellent cooperation between the two of them at one point in Fowler’s career, it eventually ended. As of September last year, Fowler teamed up once again with his coach, which proved to be a wise decision.

In addition to Harmon, his caddy, Ricky Romano, had a great influence on him. In an interview with the media after the victory, Fowler revealed why the collaboration between him and Harmon had previously ended.“Both have been great partnerships.

Butch was nothing new since we worked together for quite a while through the middle part of my career,” Fowler said. “Our split was really just because he stopped traveling, and then things weren’t working the last few years.

“Rickie Fowler seems to be a golfer who doesn’t need much guidance or attention. This great golfer emphasized that he does not meet his coach often. Harmon is a man who brilliantly analyzes the situation on the course live or via TV.“I’m not someone that necessarily needs a whole lot of attention from a coach or anything like that.

I think over the last 10 months or so I think I’ve seen Butch four times. So it’s more the communication and talking and going back and forth and him looking at videos or what he sees on TV or stuff he can see on course from, like I said, TV or on the Tour app or whatever it may be.”

Rickie Fowler on Harmon and his qualities

Fowler is happy to have Harmon as his coach, as he is a man who has worked with many stars during his career.

His experience and qualities are crucial. The fact that Fowler is playing significantly better since Harmon has been his coach speaks volumes.“That’s been big because I think Butch – he’s the best golf coach out there.

He does a great job with players, taking what they have and ultimately I think making them the best that they can be with who they are and how they swing and make what they do well that much better and bring up the weaknesses”.
