Boris Becker, in an interview with the Italian site Gazzetta dello Sport, did not hesitate to give his opinion on Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner in light of the recent performances of the two Italian tennis players at Wimbledon 2023.The former German champion, winner of six Grand Slam tournaments, first of all expressed his opinion on the evolution of Matteo Berrettini’s career: “After the final reached at Wimbledon in 2021, I think that the excellent results obtained and partly the injuries have put a little out of focus with respect to goals.

Now it is evident how he has brought tennis back to the center, at the top of his priorities. I wish him a successful future because he deserves it.”As for Sinner, however, Becker first of all reserved for him significant words of encouragement: “I have great affection for him, I like him very much as a person and I really hope that he has a great career.”

Boris Becker talked also about Jannik Sinner

At the same time, there were some observations regarding the progress of the semifinal lost by the Italian against Djokovic on Friday: “If I had to analyze the course of the match in depth, then I would say that it is more Jannik who lost the game that not Novak to have won it.Sinner immediately gave up his serve in the first two sets and seemed to enter the court excessively shy and you certainly cannot afford this when you find yourself facing a great champion. He had a set point available and should have exploited it in the best possible way and instead he made some mistakes.

I’ll be honest: compared to last year I confided that I noticed more improvements in his game but Jannik can still be proud of his progress in the tournament.”Boris Becker was Novak Djokovic‘s coach between 2013 and 2016: a period in which the Serbian won six Grand Slam titles.
