Nets’ Mikal Bridges says he needs to improve his play-making

Brooklyn Nets wing Mikal Bridges has shown a lot in his five season in the NBA after being the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. More to the point, ever since he was traded to the Nets in the Kevin Durant trade, Bridges has shown that he can be more than just a wing who shoots threes and plays defense.

In 27 regular-season games with Brooklyn, Bridges averaged 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 37.6% from three-point land. Along with all of the scoring that the former Villanova Wildcat was doing, Bridges also showed that he was capable of being the primary scoring option on a respectable team.

Despite finishing the regular-season with a 12-14 record, excluding the last regular-season game that most of the main rotation players did not play in, the fact that the Nets finished just two games below .500 in spite of how much the team changed shows what the squad can do next season with a full training camp. Bridges acknowledge just as much when he made an appearance on Sports Illustrated’s Gaming Room show to say what he needs to improve on for next season:

“Play-making. I think the play-making and maybe having the ball more in my hands and not shooting every time and just getting everybody involved. I think really just play-making throughout the whole 48 the whole time I’m out there. (It’s) something I gotta look at and I’m gonna take another step just into this off-season and work on things like that.”
