Tom Aspinall reveals plan to ‘beat Jon Jones’ following quick knockout win in UFC London comeback fight

Tom Aspinall returned from his injury layoff in spectacular fashion.

The British MMA star made quick work of the usually-tough Marcin Tybura at UFC London in the O2 Arena on Saturday night.

Aspinall was at his blistering best from the opening bell as he rocked Tybura with big shots before dropping him to the floor in just over a minute.

The 30-year-old swarmed with a series of ground strikes to pick up a much-needed win exactly one year to the day since suffering a grim injury.

On July 22, 2022, Aspinall squared off against top contender Curtis Blaydes at the iconic 20,000-seater arena in London and blew out his knee in the opening seconds of the bout.

A win would’ve put the man from Atherton on the brink of a shot at the UFC heavyweight title that has since been acquired by Jon Jones.

Tom Aspinall happy to play backup role when Jon Jones faces Stipe Miocic at ‘dream venue’

‘Bones’ ended his three-year MMA hiatus in March when he quickly submitted Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the belt made vacant by Francis Ngannou.

During his post-fight interview with UFC legend Michael Bisping, Aspinall revealed his two-fight plan that includes beating Jones.

“I’m gonna go to Paris,” he said.

“I’m gonna sit in the front row and see Cyril Gane vs Sergey Spivak.

“I’m gonna beat the winner & then I’m gonna beat Jon Jones.”

Jones will make the first defence of his heavyweight crown when he takes on former two-time champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on November 11.

Aspinall recently told talkSPORT he’s willing to play a backup role for that fight, but it now appears he wants to earn his shot by facing another top contender.

Gane and Spivak will square off at UFC Paris on September 2.
