Bulls ‘didn’t make an offer’ for Javon Freeman-Liberty

For the Chicago Bulls, Summer League was a perfect opportunity to evaluate their young talent. They are aiming to make the playoffs next year, but in order to secure a brighter future in Chicago, they should also be looking to add youth to the roster, as they don’t have a ton of promising youngsters.

Javon Freeman-Liberty quickly stole the show for the Bulls, as he emerged as the best player on their Summer League roster. And it wasn’t close. The 23-year-old point guard played amazingly, but in the end, he signed a two-way deal with the Toronto Raptors. The Bulls weren’t able to hang onto him.

According to Daniel Greenberg on Twitter, three NBA teams made Freeman-Liberty a two-way contract offer, and Chicago wasn’t one of them.

“3 NBA teams offered Chicago’s own Javon Freeman-Liberty two-way deals but he turned those down and ended up signing with the Toronto Raptors, his agents Luke and Keith Glass tell me. The Bulls didn’t make an offer,” Greenberg tweeted.

In five appearances in Summer League, Freeman-Liberty averaged 21.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 49.3% shooting from the floor and 46.2% shooting from behind the three-point line.

As noted, he was easily the best player on the Bulls’ squad, surpassing the likes of Dalen Terry and rookie Julian Phillips.

Chicago’s decision to bring back Ayo Dosunmu likely put an end to the idea of them also re-signing Freeman-Liberty, and from his perspective, there will undoubtedly be more opportunities to earn minutes in Toronto.

Should the Bulls have brought back Freeman-Liberty?
