Caroline Wozniacki shares her impressions after concluding first tournament back

Caroline Wozniacki says she knows where she stands with her tennis and added it is “not too far away” from where she wants to be. This week, 33-year-old Wozniacki played her first tournament in three and a half years. After ousting Kimberly Birrell 6-2 6-2 in the Montreal first round, Wozniacki exited the tournament in the second round following a 2-6 5-7 loss to 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

Although Wozniacki wanted to beat Vondrousova and it didn’t happen, the Dane was still positive about her first tournament back in Montreal.“I think as a competitor you always want to win obviously, but at the end of the day if I look at this tournament, I’m proud of myself.

I’m happy that I got to play two matches. I’m happy that I kind of know where I stand, what I can do moving forward. I think it’s a great learning curve, and I’m happy that I know where I am, and I don’t feel like I’m that far away from where I want to be.

It’s great to be here and learn a lot along the way,” Wozniacki said.

Wozniacki on what she needs to improve

Going forward, Wozniacki is hoping to do better in the key situations of the match. Against Vondrousova, Wozniacki definitely had her chances but didn’t convert.

In their match, Wozniacki converted just one of her seven break point chances while Vondrousova realized 5 of her 15 break point opportunities. “It’s going to be a lot of in the important moments when you have break point, when you’re break point down, making the right decisions and making the smart decision in those moments and feeling confident and comfortable enough to go for your shots and be confident enough that you know that those are going to go in, and you’re not going to make an easy error in those moments.

That for me is something that I’m sure is going to come with more match play,” Wozniacki said.Next week, Wozniacki is playing at a WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati.
