Novak Djokovic reveals the highest level he has ever in back-to-back matches at the Grand Slam level happened at the 2019 Australian Open, when he absolutely destroyed Lucas Pouille and Rafael Nadal in his semifinal and final matches at Melbourne Park.

In the 2019 Australian Open semifinal, Djokovic dismantled former world No 10 Pouille 6-0 6-2 6-2. Then in the final, Djokovic ousted Nadal 6-3 6-2 6-3. That year, Nadal was playing outstanding throughout the entire Australian Open as he made the final without a dropped set.

What many expected to be a tight battle, ended up in a demolition of Nadal. “Back-to-back matches on the highest level of Grand Slams that I’ve ever played was 2019 Australian Open semis and finals. I beat Lucas Pouille, and then I beat Nadal in the finals.

Straight sets both matches, and I played incredibly clean tennis. And I would say also this year’s Australian Open was quite good. I did play some of my most aggressive tennis that I ever played,” Djokovic said on ESPN+’s “McEnroe’s Places,” via Tennis365.

What Djokovic said after destroying Nadal in Melbourne?

In his press conference after the 2019 Australian Open final, Djokovic highlighted it was one of the top performances that he delivered ever.

Also, Djokovic admitted he was positively surprised by how dominant he was against Nadal in the final. “It ranks right at the top. Under the circumstances, playing against Nadal, such an important match, yeah, I mean, it’s amazing.

Obviously back-to-back semifinals and finals, I think I made 15 unforced errors in total in two matches, it’s quite pleasantly surprising to myself, as well, even though I always believe I can play this way, visualize myself playing this way.

At this level, as I said, under the circumstances, it was truly a perfect match,” Djokovic said in his press conference after beating Nadal in the 2019 final at Melbourne Park.
