The Spanish David Puig achieved his first victory as a professional player this Sunday by winning the Singapore tournament, on the Asian circuit, played at the Tanah Merah Country Club.

Puig, who usually competes on the Saudi LIV circuit, won from start to finish, despite the fact that in the last round he finished with one stroke over par (73).

Despite this, the great advantage that he had accumulated allowed him to seal his first title. He finished with a total of -19 and a difference of five hits over the South Korean Jaewoong Eom and seven with respect to the American Andy Ogletree and the Thai Poom Saksansin.

Puig had a nine-shot lead at the start of Sunday thanks to his spectacular first three rounds of 64, 66 and 66. Nobody could doubt his victory. He made a birdie on the par five 8th hole and two bogeys on the 11th and 14th that did not tarnish his victory.

“It’s incredible,” admitted the Spanish player, who pocketed the $360,000 with which the victory was endowed and became, at 21 years old, the youngest winner of an International Series tournament. “This is my first year as a professional, but I think I deserved a win probably two or three months before today.

But yeah, it’s amazing, it’s the best feeling in the world. That’s why I practice so hard,” said Puig after his ninth participation in the Asian circuit, in which he is now in fourth place, while he is second in the order of merit of the International Series.

Puig has participated regularly in the LIV circuit, in which he has played for the Torque GC team, alongside the Chileans Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira and the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz, and with which he has won four times.

Next week he will participate in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) in the last tournament of the regular calendar. “I had a good opportunity to join LIV right after college and I think I took advantage of it and played pretty well this year.

Also, I want to thank my team, the Torque team, who have always been a great help to me and I learned a lot of them. And yes, playing against these guys is a dream come true. But I think I should be here and today I showed it,” he noted.
