Jon Rahm, number 3 in the world, concluded the first day of the Spanish Golf Open held at the Villa de Madrid Country Club with four under par, after a morning session dominated by the Frenchman Mike Lorenzo Vera and the British Eddie Pepperell , both with -6.

Rahm, paired with Rafa Cabrera Bello, winner in 2021, and the German Paul Yannik, completed a good course of play, although far from the good start he had in the tournament in 2022, when he finished the first day with -7.

The ‘Lion of Barrika’, the center of attention in the morning session, played supported by hundreds of fans who came to follow him, taking advantage of the holiday and the good weather conditions. In fact, the sun and the high temperature were also protagonists.

Rahm started on the tenth hole and made it halfway through with two birdies and a bogey. On the second, from holes 1 to 9, he made three birdies on 4, 6 and 7, finishing with a score of four under par. After equaling Severiano Ballesteros with three victories in the Spanish Open, becoming the two golfers who have accumulated the most trophies in the modern history of the championship, Jon Rahm seeks in this edition to get closer to Ángel de la Torre, who, with five titles ( between 1916 and 1925), holds the record for most wins in the tournament.

His teammates, Rafa Cabrero Bello and Patrick Yannik, did not come close to their records since they finished with -1 and -2, respectively. The best in the morning session was the Frenchman Mike Lorenzo Vera, number 424 in the world ranking, who finished with -6, the same as the British Eddie Pepperell.

Jon Rahm Rodríguez (Barrica, Vizcaya, November 10, 1994) is a Spanish professional golfer,5 current number 3 in the world. He was number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for sixty weeks, holding the absolute record as number one in said classification.

He started as a professional in 2016, the year in which he participated in the United States Open, which he would win only five years later, on June 20, 2021, making him the first Spanish golfer to win this tournament. In 2017 he was champion of the San Diego Open, the Irish Open and the Dubai World Championship.
