I looked up to Andre Agassi a lot

Andy Murray revealed Andre Agassi was someone he looked up to after winning his second Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award. This week, the ATP announced Murray as the receipt of this year’s Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award.

Shortly after the Russian aggression on Ukraine started, Murray pledged to donate all of his prize money to help the children of Ukraine affected by the war. In total, Murray donated $630 million to help the children of Ukraine.

Now, Murray is the fourth ATP player to win the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award two times.

Murray: I looked up to Agassi a lot

“I join Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi as two-time winners of this award.

Agassi is someone who I looked up to a lot growing up. I know he has done a lot of great things away from the court with his school. Roger’s foundation has also staged fundraising matches for parts of Africa and I know Aisam has been involved in peace talks in his part of the world.

I think that a lot of the young players who are coming through seem like good guys. I’m sure they’re going to be great ambassadors for the sport moving forward. I’d encourage them to try and find some causes that are important to them and mean something to them and to try and give back when they get the chance,” Murray wrote in a column for the ATP Tour.

Meanwhile, Murray is preparing for the 2023 season. Murray, 35, recently announced that he intends to start his 2023 season at the Adelaide International. After Adelaide, Murray heads to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

At the Australian Open, Murray is a five-time finalist but has never won the title. It remains to be seen if Murray can turn back the clock and make another deep Australian Open run.
