Nick Kyrgios jokes he might be “the most generous” player in tennis history since money from his fines goes to charity. Kyrgios, 28, has a long history of being fined due to various misconducts. In October, Kyrgios told Mike Tyson during their conversation on the boxing legend’s podcast that he has “accumulated almost $500k in fines.” This week, Kyrgios was hosted by Piers Morgan. “It goes to charity, so on the flip side I could be the most generous,” Kyrgios said on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Talk TV.

Kyrgios on if he regrets some of his actions

Kyrgios, an eight-time ATP champion, is one of the most popular players in the world but he is also no stranger to controversy or drama.

Reflecting on his image and history, Kyrgios admits there were probably some things he should have done differently in the past. But in recent years, Kyrgios has changed his reputation for the better and he has noticed that fans around the world are now more supportive of him.

“Back in the day when I used to show up to places it was like, even for practice, I needed extra security guards compared to the other players because of the hate. People used to hate seeing me on the courts. I used to be addicted, knowing it could spoil someone’s day.

Sometimes, when I watch my highlights back and I realize, I probably should not have done that. There’s some regret in some of my actions obviously. I’m not going to sit here and say it was always warranted. I used to love it. Not so much anymore.

When I go out to stadiums around the world now it’s like people are cheering, people are going crazy, people wanting to see the show and they’re very supportive. Being loved is better, being appreciated and being supported,” Kyrgios said.
