After the numerous excesses which punctuated the 2024 edition of the Waste Management Phoenix Open won by the Canadian Nick Taylor, the tournament organization has committed to seriously reviewing “its copy” for 2025.

The party is over at TPC Scottsdale!

Phoenix, rules

Players insulted shamelessly, fights between spectators, when some of them displayed a blood alcohol level well exceeded, this 2024 edition of the WM Phoenix Open reached the alert level.

Unsavory scenes on a golf course clearly spoiled the party. Acts that the tournament management has undertaken to “repair” for future meetings… Speaking to Golf Channel, Chance Cozby, the venue’s Executive Director, was very clear.

A “complete operational change” will be implemented for 2025. “We’re very proud of what we’ve been building for quite some time now,” Cozby said. Over the last seven years, I think we’ve been the hottest tournament on the PGA Tour.

But we do not condone what happened this week. Particularly on Saturday (Editor’s note, an alcohol ban was imposed following several altercations between spectators and players). It is clear that we will make changes for next year.

We have a year to resolve the problem! » This Saturday, February 10, 2024 was a turning point for our tournament. And we want to make it better.
The initial plan would first be to limit ticket sales for the entire tournament.

The security service should also be reinforced, in particular to avoid intrusions by drunken fans as was the case on the par 3 of the 16th, the famous “Devil’s Hole”. “Everything is possible,” confirms Cozby.

This Saturday, February 10, 2024 was a turning point for our tournament. And we want to make it better. We owe it for our fans, we also owe it and especially for the PGA Tour players who come every year to support the event. We can’t let this happen again!”.

The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are the responsibility of the United States Golf Association.

An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision is effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
