The withdrawal of Tiger Woods from the ‘Genesis Invitational’ is shrouded in mystery. In the United States, the Californian abruptly departed from the PGA Tour tournament, officially citing “an illness,” as explained by the premier male American circuit.

Indeed, during the first round, the 15-time Major champion had already experienced back spasms. Accompanied by a golf cart to the Club House, the Genesis Invitational thus loses its most anticipated protagonist.

Tiger Woods, news

Returning to play ten months after his last appearance (when he withdrew from the Masters during the third round), an official event, Woods now faces another halt.

Another one. And on social networks, users are unleashing their reactions. “We want explanations,” reads one of the many comments. And further: “It’s over,” the harsh verdict of many. Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods, born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, is an American golfer.

Considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, he is one of the most popular athletes of the early 21st century. Winner of 15 major tournaments, he revolutionized the world of golf with his athletic achievements and by attracting a new audience.

A prodigy, Tiger Woods started playing golf at a very young age and had an exceptional junior career. As an amateur, he was closely watched for his extraordinary abilities and turned professional at the end of the summer of 1996.

Winning the Masters in 1997, he became the world number one less than a season after turning professional. Dominant throughout most of the 2000s, various knee and back issues forced him to reinvent his game. A commercial figure and the face of Nike, Tiger Woods secured numerous lucrative contracts off the course, making him one of the wealthiest athletes of the 2000s despite scandals tarnishing his private life and marriage in 2009.

In April 2019, at the age of 43, he achieved the remarkable feat of winning his 5th Masters at Augusta and his 15th career major title, eleven years after his last major victory. On May 6, 2019, he was awarded the highest civilian honor in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by President Donald Trump. On March 8, 2022, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
