Dobai and Ovunc SEC players and win over Texas A&M!

Double joy in a few hours for Auburn University men’s tennis team (and women’s also). A few hours ago, senior Raul Dobai and Auburn women’s tennis graduate student Selin Ovunc were named to the SEC Community Service Team.

Dobai has participated in community service initiatives through her involvement with the SACC, including volunteering with the Auburn campus food pantry. Dobai is also a member of a service team at her home church in Auburn, where she volunteers during worship services.

After multiple earthquakes hit her home country of Turkey in 2023, Ovunc raised awareness and encouraged donations to the AHBAP on campus with the Turkish Student Organization. Ovunc also helped organize fundraisers to benefit earthquake victims. Ovunc also played a decisive role in the opening of a refugee area for earthquake victims after the tragedy.

Ovunc previously did volunteer work at Dean Road Elementary School, where she spent time with students talking about her experiences as a student-athlete at Auburn and answering their questions. Additionally, Ovunc had previously fostered a dog for Pups on the Plains’ Rescue Team, a student-run organization with the mission of pulling dogs out of shelters and teaching them how to become pets through fostering.

Ovunc was named a member of the SEC Community Service team for the second consecutive year. Ovunc has had a notable impact in communities outside of the United States. She has played regularly at the No. 1 doubles position for the Tigers this season with Finn Murgett. The two have a 9-9 record in duals and hold an ITA doubles ranking of 23rd.

Auburn blows away Texas A&M 5-2

Auburn men’s tennis then beat Texas A&M 5-2, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. The Tigers secured their sixth SEC win of the season.

Auburn coach Bobby Reynolds said after the win:

“It was great. The atmosphere was great. I felt we played really well in doubles one, two and three. Afterwards I told the guys, win or lose that point, I felt we had so many opportunities, and that’s what we want to have those opportunities, keep coming and do it again and again. Over time, you will be successful if you keep coming.

In the singles, we came out a little slow and dug ourselves into a bit of a hole. But then at the end, we made some changes, especially on Finn’s court, and it looked like Tyler had made some changes on court one. Then you start digging, start putting the pieces together to give yourself a chance in the third. In the end, to turn around the first three fields and still close to six, I couldn’t be happier for the guys.”
