Naomi Osaka sued in class action lawsuit against FTX

Naomi Osaka and other sports stars such as Stephen Curry, Shaquille O’Neal and Tom Brady, along with many others, have been sued in a class action lawsuit in Florida against the bankruptcy of FTX. The initiators of the lawsuit accuse the company of using a fraudulent scheme to raise funds using some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment as well.

740 million dollars of cryptocurrencies were found in the company’s wallets: over two billion dollars from the exchange’s customers are said to be missing, who according to the American media risk never seeing the invested funds again.

FTX went bankrupt in a liquidity crisis earlier this month, owing its 50 largest creditors at least $3.1 billion. This was revealed by the Washington Post, citing new trial documents. The highest amount to be repaid is $226 million, but there would also be ten creditors with claims of at least $100 million.

Companies that have invested in FTX include BlackRock, Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

Naomi Osaka: “Victories and defeats damaged my mental health”

The four-time Grand Slam champion went on to add that she realized she had to establish a new metric for success, because relying on the outcome of a match was affecting both her mental health and her love for the sport: ” One of the hardest parts it was, right after a loss, going to the press room and talking to the media, answering questions about why I had played poorly or what I could have done better, and being asked how it feels to have just lost the game.

Neither of these conversations are pleasant, but especially not after a loss. It’s like pouring salt into a wound. The weight of a match result made me realize that I had to step back and create a new metric for success, because the hyper-fixation on wins and losses hurt my mental health and my love for the game.”

The Japanese for 2023 will certainly try to get closer to the standards it had put in place between 2018 and 2021. Naomi Osaka, among other things, was the first Asian in history to have reached the primacy of the WTA world rankings. At the Australian Open, if she should play, she will be among the favorite to win.
