Tottenham stars Harry Kane and Heung-min Son overtake Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for most goals scored in Premier League matches together but South Korean laments lack of strikes this season

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son created history on Wednesday night after they both scored in the 4-0 away victory at Crystal Palace.

The duo have now found the back of the net in 34 Premier League games together – overtaking previous record holders Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Few would have expected the emphatic scoreline at half-time after the Eagles dominated Spurs for the majority of the first half at Selhurst Park.

But the visitors raced out of the blocks at the start of the second period, with Kane firing in a quickfire double in the 48th and 53rd minute.

Matt Doherty then put Spurs three to the good in the 68th minute, before Son banged in moments later in what was his first top-flight goal since his hat-trick against Leicester on September 17.

And it proved to be a historic goal as Son and Kane have now scored the most of any duo in the Premier League.

A delighted Son told Sky Sports after the match how he has felt ‘sorry’ for his teammates that he hasn’t been able to contribute more this campaign.

He said: “This is a difficult place to come and play well. I think we deserved it, in the second half we dominated the game and scored four beautiful goals.

“[My goal] was about time! It felt amazing. To be honest I felt really sorry for the team because I think they were expecting more than what I’ve done.

“I hope today was the turning point, getting back the confidence and I will continue to help the team.”

Kane, who is just two strikes shy of equalling Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for Spurs, is now keen for Spurs to kick on in 2023 after their setback against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

He stated: “We’ve not come back and had the best results, we did well at Brentford to get something out of the game and then losing at home a few days ago was tough.

“It was a tough game today away from home so it was nice to put that performance in.

“I thought we started the game well, so it was more just getting back to that in the second half.

“It was about moving the ball quick, getting runs in behind and then just quality in the final third.

“These are the games, if you go 1-0 behind, you can find it really difficult to get back into it.

“The games are coming thick and fast so it was great to get three points here. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the games ahead.”

Fifth-placed Spurs, who trail Manchester United by two points in the table, face Arsenal in the north London derby in their next top-flight outing on January 15.
