Chelsea break British transfer record for Fernandez, Ziyech loan to Paris Saint-Germain collapses, Manchester United sign ‘killer’ Sabitzer, Everton eye Ayew on a free

The transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday to complete a record breaking month of spending in English football.

Premier League clubs paid out £815m in total in the January window with more than £275m spent on deadline day alone.

Chelsea were the biggest spenders of the month and saved their biggest deal for deadline day, smashing the British transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a fee of £106.8m.

However, their attempts to loan Hakim Ziyech to Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the season failed at the final hurdle, with the Blues sending the wrong documents.

Arsenal also did business, signing Jorginho for a fee rising to £12million from their London rivals, while Man United completed a late loan move for Marcel Sabitzer.

Man City allowed Joao Cancelo to move to Bayern Munich, and Tottenham finally landed Pedro Porro as Matt Doherty sealed a surprise free transfer move to Atletico Madrid.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, completed a triple swoop, including the loan signing of three-time Champions League winner Keylor Navas from Paris Saint-Germain.
