Nothing but net to talk about

Stefanos Tsitsipas met two Panathinaikos basketball players and jokingly remarked “there is nothing but net to talk about.” This week, Greece is hosting Ecuador in the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens, which is better known as OAKA.

OAKA is the home of Panathinaikos Basketball Club so Tsitsipas stumbled upon Nikos Pappas and Dimitris Agravanis. “When basketball and tennis players meet, they have nothing but net to talk about,” Tsitsipas captioned his Twitter post.

This weekend, Greece will be taking on Ecuador in the World Group I qualifiers. With Tsitsipas leading Greece, the hosts are the big favorites to beat Ecuador.

Tsitsipas believes he is ‘a champion’

When Tsitsipas takes out on the court to play the Davis Cup, it will be his first action since losing the Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic. Had Tsitsipas defeated Djokovic, he would have won his first Grand Slam and reached the world No 1 spot.

“I want to max out in what I do in my profession. No 1 is on my mind. It doesn’t come easy, I know that. I got to work harder to make that happen. Today was my opportunity to be a world No 1. I had a better opponent on the other side of the net who did things much better than me.

He deserves that spot currently,” Tsitsipas said after missing out a chance to become the world No 1. Tsitsipas, who is now ranked at No 3 in the world, believes there is no reason for him not to believe that he can reach the top spot in the near future.

“It’s my time to aim for something like this. I don’t see any reason to be lowering my expectations or my goals. I am born a champion. I can feel it in my blood. I can feel it as a competitive kid that I was when I was young. It’s something that is within me.

I want to harvest that, make it bloom, make it even stronger and fonder, work hard towards those goals. It’s that beautiful number, the number ‘1’, that will make things extremely emotional when converting that,” Tsitsipas added.
