Antonio Conte refuses to say if he’ll be at Tottenham long-term amid claims he’s ‘given up’ and players have ‘out-Spursy’d themselves’ after Man City defeat

Antonio Conte opted to not comment on his long-term future at Tottenham after his side’s defeat at Manchester City.

Spurs were 2-0 up at half time of the Etihad Stadium clash but couldn’t handle City’s second-half onslaught as they fell to a 4-2 defeat.

Speaking on The Sports Bar, ex-Chelsea star Jason Cundy quipped: “Spurs have out-Spursy’d themselves. And that’s saying something.”

talkSPORT pundit and Tottenham fan Darren Ambrose certainly didn’t see the funny side of things, however.

On Conte, Ambrose told talkSPORT: “He’s broken me. I think he’s given up. He’s given up on the board, he’s given up on certain players.”

“You go 3-2 down and you take Ivan Perisic off and put on Ryan Sessegnon. That’s not how you win the game.”

But Conte insists he’s doing what he can to improve things at Spurs.

A defiant Conte said in a press conference: “If I demanded the same level as at Juventus and Inter it could be dangerous, as my frustration could be very big… I want to improve the club with my vision, my idea.

“If we compare this season and last season, we have lost defensive solidity. This is the first time in my career my team concede so many goals.”

Tottenham were blown away in the second-half after an inspired performance from Riyad Mahrez, who scored twice, set up another and had a huge role in the first goal.

Ederson had gifted the visitors the opener towards the end of the first-half when his awful pass was intercepted, leading to Dejan Kulusevski netting past the Brazilian.

And he did not cover himself in glory when moments later Emerson Royal doubled the lead when he reacted quickest to Ederson’s save from a Harry Kane effort.

But City flipped a switch during the break when minutes after the break Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland scored to bring it back to 2-2 before Mahrez scored twice.

The defeat is Tottenham’s second in a row and they are in wretched form having won just one of their last five in the league.

Spurs’ bad form has led to a number of questions about his future and Conte didn’t provide a very reassuring response that he’ll be sticking around.

When asked about his long-term future at the club, Conte told talkSPORT: “This is a question that I don’t like to answer.”
