‘He doesn’t fear any man’

Tommy Fury has insisted the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight being called off was not his brother’s fault.

Tyson and Usyk were expected to clash on April 29 at Wembley Stadium, but the fight never came to fruition, as the boxers could not agree terms.

But Tommy believes his brother Tyson is not to blame

Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, put the blame at Tyson’s door, saying: “We were desperate to find a compromise. Tyson didn’t want to compromise.”

Meanwhile, Tyson took to social media after the fight was called off to launch a foul-mouthed tirade at Usyk, calling him every insult under the sun.

Talking about the collapse in negotiations on Saturday morning’s Soccer AM, Tommy said: “[Tyson] does not like Usyk at the minute.”

He continued by defending his brother, as he explained: “There’s a lot of politics in boxing, but I wanted to say this first hand. The reason why this fight isn’t getting made isn’t down to Tyson at all.

“He wants to fight, he’s proven to everybody. He’s gone and fought Deontay Wilder after three years out, he’ll fight any man, he doesn’t fear any man.

“Especially not a cruiserweight who can’t do anything anyway. He’s too small, what’s he going to do.

Tommy believes Usyk would have been too small to beat Tyson even if they had fought

“So, it is what it is, but it’s not Tyson’s fault.”

Tommy was then asked whether he believes the Tyson vs Usyk fight will ever happen and he replied: “Yeah definitely.

“All these massive fights will happen, but it just takes a while to get made.”

For the time being, however, it seems unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Usyk may move on to fight his WBA mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois, while another Brit in Joe Joyce is reportedly the favourite to take on Tyson next.
