The Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev match didn’t go without a little bit of drama as the German tennis star took exception with the Russian stopping the play and demanding to see a replay of a point.

Serving to send the fourth set into a tie-break, Zverev started the 12th game with a backhand winner. Initially, Medvedev didn’t react and it seemed like he accepted the call. But then, Medvedev waved his hand toward the chair umpire and requested to see a close call.

When the request was made, the point was replayed on the big screen but Medvedev wanted an even closer look to where the ball landed. At that point, Zverev got annoyed by Medvedev’s antics and made his feelings clear to the chair umpire.

“He knows the ball is inside of the line, he’s doing a show again,” Zverev could be heard telling the chair umpire.

Just moments after Zverev’s comment, it was confirmed that his ball landed in.

Zverev ended up losing to Medvedev in five sets

After a tense moment, Zverev managed to serve out the 12th game and force a fourth-set tie-break. In the fourth-set tie-break, Zverev claimed a mini-break to open a 5-4 lead and give himself a chance to close out the match.

But then, Zverev lost the next two points on his serve before Medvedev served an ace at 6-5 to send the match into a decider.

After losing the fourth set in a heartbreaking way, Zverev dropped his serve in the fifth game of the fifth set. Down 5-3 and serving to stay in the match, Zverev got broken again as Medvedev completed a major comeback win over the German.

After taking out Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open quarterfinal, Zverev also put himself in a strong position to beat Medvedev before suffering a collapse.

For 26-year-old Zverev, this was undoubtedly a very painful and disappointing loss. Now, Zverev is 1-6 in his Grand Slam semifinals.
