Mexico, Peter Uihlein-Talor Gooch surprised


In Mexico the LIV Golf Mayakoba hits and continues to reserve surprises. At the end of the second round of the first tournament of the 2023 Arab Super League, the Americans Peter Uihlein (67 66) and Talor Gooch (67 66) are at the top of the standings in the individual competition with a total of 133 (-9) shots.

Seven birdies and two bogeys for the first, try bogey free with five birdies for the second. The two leaders with one lap to go are followed by compatriot Charles Howell, 3/o with 134 (-8).

On the course of the El Camaleón Mayakoba (par 71), the Englishman Paul Casey slipped from 1st to 4th place with 136 (-6) on a par with the South African Branden Grace.

Further back the big names. Dustin Johnson, former number 1 in the world and absolute ruler of the first season of LIV Golf, is 10/o with 139 (-3) and does not seem to have any chance of winning. Late also the Australian Cameron Smith (fifth in the world ranking), 13/o with 140 (-2).

The “Crushers GC” team led by Bryson DeChambeau, with Charles Howell III, Casey and Anirban Lahiri leads the team classification with a score of “-14” strokes, two ahead of the “4Aces GC” led by Dustin Johnson. The first of fourteen events, LIV Golf Mayakoba is up for grabs for $25 million.

Whoever finishes in first place in the individual competition will take home 4,000,000, while 3,000,000 ($750,000 per player) will be awarded to the team that prevails in the team competition.
