West Ham boss David Moyes brands drubbing by Newcastle as ’embarrassing’ and fan offers to sell season ticket on talkSPORT

West Ham boss David Moyes has branded the goals conceded against Newcastle as ’embarrassing’ after their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle.

The Hammers were handed a worrying drubbing that has left them out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

West Ham were put to the sword

And the defending on show at the London Stadium on Wednesday night will give fans little hope of staying in the top tier after a miserable performance from front to back.

It even led to one supporter calling into The Sports Bar on talkSPORT and trying to flog his season ticket for ‘a couple of quid’.

West Ham went two goals down in the opening 13 minutes of the match through Callum Wilson and Joelinto with the defending slammed by Moyes, who spoke to Ian Abrahams after the match.

The Moose asked the beleaguered Hammers boss if he thought that the display against Newcastle was embarrassing, to which Moyes told talkSPORT: “I agree, I could put those words to it.

“I was embarrassed by goal one and two. Never mind three and four.

“We gave away two terrible goals in the first half which shouldn’t have been. But let’s be fair, if you’ve been a player, you can make individual mistakes.

“We didn’t give ourselves a chance. We got back into it at half-time and deservedly so because we didn’t play that badly.

“We played quite well, probably better than what we did against Southampton at the weekend. But we gave away a goal about 20 seconds and it was a mountain to climb then.”

Despite Kurt Zouma grabbing one goal back before half-time to halve the deficit, West Ham shot themselves in the foot just moments after the break.

Nayef Aguerd was caught dawdling as Jacob Murphy robbed the ball off him on the edge of his box to set Wilson up for his second of the match.

There was more calamity at the back when Lukasz Fabianski rushed out of his goal before nudging the ball out straight to Alexander Isak, who showed his gratitude by dinking one over the veteran goalkeeper to make it four.

And then Joelinton made it a rout by easing past West Ham’s defence to get Newcastle’s fifth while most of the London Stadium had vacated by then, except a very noisy section of away fans.

One West Ham fan called Chris called in and told Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara live on air: “I’ve just come on national radio just to see if anyone was interested in buying my season ticket for the remaining games.”

Cundy replied: “How much do you want for it?”

To which, Chris said: “I don’t know. A couple of quid I think? I’ll probably have to pay someone to take it away from me right now.

“Honestly, I am disgusted. Absolutely disgusted by the performance tonight.

“This is a relegation battle that we are in and to get turned over 5-1 at home, albeit to a very good team, some of the mistakes were just schoolboy errors.”
