Chris Evert has doubts about Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros

The last to take a stand on the upcoming Roland Garros 2023 was former US player Chris Evert, in an interesting interview with Warner Bros. Discovery Sport. The first observations of the former world number one could not fail to concern the two legends of this sport still active, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

She said: “They are the greatest players on red clay in recent years, even if with the advance of age are naturally experiencing a bit of physical problems. We hope that everyone will be in the best physical condition to face the tournament, also because in the last period many have been injured and have been forced to stop.

Nole and Rafa are for me two question marks from a health point of view. I’m curious to see them, I hope they can be 100% but we can’t know.” Then she continued on the Big Three, who have already lost the presence of Roger Federer for some time: “You can never underestimate Nadal, even if he hasn’t managed to have the best preparation on clay, as well as Djokovic.

However, they are the only ones with superior experience, they know how to cope better than anyone else and how to manage their emotions.”

Considerations on Carlos Alcaraz

Evert also talked about Carlos Alcaraz, who could be the top seed in the draw, especially if he were to reconfirm himself as champion at the Mutua Madrid Open.

She explained: “He has a lot of confidence, he’s ready for the title. He must be physically fit because he is playing a lot. We have never seen a player like him, with so much passion and hunger. In my opinion, he has it all: he’s athletic, he moves well, he knows how to attack and defend: he has practically no weak points.

If he can keep healthy and hungry, I think Roland Garros will be his. A match between him and Nadal would be fantastic, as well as if he had to face Djokovic.”
