Conor McGregor was utterly devastated to see Katie Taylor lose to Chantelle Cameron on Saturday night in Dublin.
The Irish star’s homecoming did not go to plan as she was outpointed by her British rival and lost a unanimous decision.
Cameron successfully defended her undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-lightweight world titles.
The Brit used her size and volume punching to overwhelm Taylor in enough of the rounds to get the nod from the judges.
McGregor sponsored the event and fully got behind her homecoming as he attended at ringside.
Footage has now emerged of McGregor’s reaction to the result being confirmed.
The first judge scored the fight a 95-95 draw, but the two following cards for, both 96-94 for Cameron, saw her ruled the winner by majority decision.
As the words ‘and still’ were read out to confirm Cameron’s victory, McGregor was seen slumping and putting his head on his hands at ringside.
The heartbroken fighter quickly regained his composure though and consoled Taylor in the ring before giving his passement to the media.
McGregor told reporters around ringside after the fight: “Great fight, close fight, I had it a draw.
Asked if wants to see the rematch at Croke Park, McGregor replied: “Yeah, yes I f***ing would.
“She went up in weight at the drop of a hat.
“She was scheduled for one different style of opponent at a specific weight and that fell through.
“So last minute what does Katie do? The warrior that’s in her? She gave me something to aspire to!
“She wanted to go up in weight and fight the champion in the heavier weight at the drop of a hat.
“Give her a chance to do it at Croke Park, for sure Croke Park is on.
“It was a close bout, the size was prevalent but Katie is a tactician, give Katie another bash at that.”
Asked to send her a message he concluded: “Keep your head up, you’re the champion, you’re the Olympic champion and you’re the world champion still in your division.”
