Pablo Andujar recalls stunning Roger Federer in their first and lone meeting

Pablo Andujar says beating Roger Federer was the highlight of his career. Andujar, 37, is retiring from pro tennis after the 2023 season. In 2021, Andujar got a chance to play against Federer for the first time in his career.

In the Geneva round-of-16 – playing against Federer in front of the Swiss crowd – Andujar created a stunning upset as beat the home favorite 6-4 4-6 6-4. “To stay with one is very difficult, but surely the match with Federer, that is an impressive moment in my career, especially because it was at the end and because I had never played against Federer.

Playing against him was already a dream, winning him was like a double dream,” Andujar told Punto de Break.

Andujar on if his kids will pursue a pro tennis career

Andujar, a former world No 32, is a four-time ATP champion.

Andujar enjoyed a very long career, having turned pro in 2003. Andujar is a father to two boys and he was asked if his kids would follow in his footsteps. “I would love it, what I try to do with my children is give them the tools to do what they want, so if they want it I will be the first to support them.

I will be able to tell them everything they are going to lose too, because when you decide to be a professional tennis player you lose a lot of things and you have to know that from a young age. If you want to be professional, you have to be aware of everything you will miss along the way.

If you’re willing to accept it, then go ahead, I’ll support you,” Andujar said. This week, Andujar made his final Barcelona Open appearance. In the Barcelona first round, Andujar was beaten in straight sets as Tomas Martin Etcheverry beat the Spaniard 6-2 7-5.
