Madrid ball ladies made tennis feel like “boxing”, says WTA star

Romanian WTA star Andreea Prisacariu, well-known for her creative tattoos, shared her opinion on the controversy regarding Mutua Madrid Open’s ball models. “Haha. Feels like a boxing match where the ladies are walking around,” Andreea Prisacariu wrote on Twitter after she saw that Madrid Open ball models traded the mini skirts for medium-long pants in the final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jan Lennard Struff, which ended with the Spaniard’s victory.

What’s the controversy about?

The reason behind the controversy regarding the ball models is the preference of the organizers to line up very attractive models as ball boys throughout the Madrid Open.

As our writer Lorenzo Ciotti put it, “It is considered by many to be a se*ist and macho choice. In fact, Madrid started this distinctive feature in 2004 with the former tennis player Ion Tiriac, director of the prestigious Iberian competition until 2021.

After the many criticisms, the clothes changed and it was thought that the idea of the models had been definitively discarded.” Read more: Underpaid models like ball girls in Madrid: controversy and protests. Despite the controversy, many fans were not disturbed by the attire of the ball girls.

“Do you know about that model ballgirl history in Madrid? It’s not a thing for this year. It started long ago. And I don’t understand why there is an argument about this. Is this the only organization in the world that works with models? Advertisements and sponsorship is a business,” a fan tweeted.
