Erik ten Hag double blow as defensive target heads to Bayern Munich and his ‘next Haaland’ given mammoth price tag

Manchester United have been dealt a blow with updates on two of their top transfer targets.

Erik ten Hag is believed to be targeting a new centre back and a goalscorer in the summer window, with two names emerging as first-choice in recent weeks.

talkSPORT understands that Napoli’s Kim Min-jae has been singled-out in defence, while Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund is wanted up front.

Both of those targets now appear to be slipping away, though, with Kim heading to Bayern Munich.

Fabrizio Romano and Foot Mercato claim the Korean international is close to an agreement with the Bundesliga champions who are set to trigger his release clause.

Betting had previously been suspended on the Serie A winner heading to Old Trafford, but things were soon complicated by Newcastle getting involved.

However, Bayern look to have won the race, despite Ten Hag wanting upgrades in defence after losing faith in Harry Maguire, and having to manage Raphael Varane’s game time.

A perhaps more blatant need for the Red Devils is a striker, with Marcus Rashford the only forward to score more than 10 goals in all competitions.

talkSPORT understands that United are planning to step up their interest in Danish 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund who has been called ‘the next Erling Haaland’ due to his size and ability.

That deal too may be complicated with Sport.es now reporting that Atalanta have put a €100million [£86m] price tag on the striker.

The Serie A side may be sniffing a potential bidding war for their star youngster who also has attracted interest from Barcelona, again making life difficult for Ten Hag and United.
