Nick Kyrgios says he is rooting for Novak Djokovic to reach the 30-Grand Slam titles mark. Djokovic, 36, became a record 23-time Grand Slam champion after beating Casper Ruud in this year’s French Open final. Last year, Rafael Nadal owned an all-time Grand Slam record with 22 Major titles.

Then, Djokovic defeated Kyrgios in the 2022 Wimbledon final to push his tally to 21 Grand Slams. After being denied participation at the 2022 US Open, Djokovic won this year’s Australian Open and French Open to overtake Nadal in the Slam race.

Kyrgios rooting for Djokovic to win 30 Grand Slams

“I hope he gets thirty, it’ll make me look better because I lost to him at Wimbledon. But yeah, it’s an amazing achievement. I know how hard he works and how much it means to him.

Obviously missing out on some Grand Slams as well, not being able to get in the country some times and obviously that time in Australia so I know he probably would’ve been on like 25-26 so I know he’s hungry. People think he’ll slow down, I think it’ll only make him more motivated to get more so I hope he gets to 28-30,” Kyrgios told Sky Sport.

Last year, Djokovic won his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title. Going into this year’s Wimbledon, Djokovic is again the No 1 favorite to win it all at The All England Club. When asked who could stop Djokovic at Wimbledon this year, Kyrgios named himself as the only option.

“No one, if it’s not me, no one,” Kyrgios said. In the 2022 Wimbledon final, Kyrgios won the first set and he was playing on a high level throughout pretty much the entire final. But even Kyrgios’ best level wasn’t enough for the Australian to beat Djokovic at Wimbledon. It remains to be seen if we will see another Kyrgios and Djokovic meeting at this year’s Wimbledon.
