Holger Rune bluntly responds to person suggesting he is crybaby

Holger Rune took a moment to respond to a person who told him to stop crying as the 20-year-old Dane said that statement was plain wrong.

On Friday, world No. 7 Rune exited the Monte Carlo Masters in the quarterfinal following a three-set loss to Jannik Sinner that came after nearly three hours of play. A day earlier, Rune showed up on the court twice as he first had to finish his three-set match against Sumit Nagal before also beating Grigor Dimitrov in three sets.

“3 matches in 38 hours, a short but beautiful @ROLEXMCMASTERS. Happy about my level of tennis. Things to improve still and will start working on this Monday. Enjoy the weekend,” Rune wrote on X when reflecting on his Monte Carlo quarterfinal outing.

Reacting to this post, one person took instance with Rune pointing out that he played three matches in around a day and a half: “Real champions don’t cry like this. Lesson # 1.”

“Hi. If I want to cry, I cry. If I want to scream, I scream. That’s me. And by the way, I never cry. This post was mainly mentioning that it’s probably the shortest tournament I had in a long time in Europe and still 3 matches. Very efficient.”

Rune fought really hard before falling short against Sinner

Going into their Monte Carlo quarterfinal match, Sinner had a 27-1 record in 2024 while Rune entered with a 16-7 record. Considering their 2024 form, Sinner was widely considered as the favorite.

After Sinner won the first set with a 6-4 scoreline, Rune saved three consecutive break points in the 11th game of the second set and also two match points in the second-set tie-break to force a decider.

When the third set started, Rune also had his chances there but he didn’t convert a break point in the fifth game and dropped his serve in the eighth game.

In the end, Rune fell just short of becoming the second player to beat Sinner in 2024 as the Italian escaped with a 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-3 win.
