Matteo Berrettini continues to win at Wimbledon, and match after match is sweeping away all the criticisms of his haters, like a real Avenger. After the success in the all-Italian match against Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo eliminated Alex De Minaur with a score of 6-3 6-4 6-4, never suffering a break and allowing only three break points at the beginning of the second set.A percentage of 88% of points won with the first serve which testifies to the dominance of the Italian tennis player with his own serve.

At the press conference, Berrettini expressed his satisfaction with the qualification for the third round, in which he will find Alexander Zverev.

The words of Matteo Berrettini in the press conference

Berrettini reflected on the difficult moment that now seems to be behind him, explaining how important it is to have reached the third round at Wimbledon. He told: “What happened last year is something that I think hasn’t healed yet.

It’s a very strong pain, when I think about it. I was probably in the best shape of my career, especially I felt good on the grass.I wanted to enjoy the tournament. Wimbledon is such a special tournament for me. Not being able to play was something that, even when I was better physically, was really hard to overcome mentally. That’s why I’m here this year, because I missed last year.

I was really sad. Even playing a few points would have been nice this year. Yes, that’s why I’m very happy. I’m really happy. I know it’s the third shift, but it feels like a lot more.”Regarding the mental aspect, Berrettini explained how the support of the people around him, family and team above all, was necessary and fundamental.
On his ability to play on grass, he explained: “I actually struggled on grass my first tournamets, in 2018.I felt like I didn’t have enough time.

I grew up on clay. My forehand, and my serve as well, were designed for the slower surfaces. Then I changed my attitude a bit. I’ve heard that playing aggressively is very important here.Don’t stress too much during matches. Sometimes the opponent is simply serving better than you, you’re coming back…

You have to let it go. You have to be ready for important moments. That’s what I’m trying to do.”In conclusion, Berrettini explained the reason why he plays with the cap backwards, explaining how it was a random choice inspired by his father, which over time has become a real habit: “Sometimes, when I don’t wear it in training, I’m very concentrated, I touch my head as if I have it. It has become something really important for me to be concentrated in the game.”
