Dustin Johnson seeks redemption in Orlando

The Arab Super League is once again a protagonist with the LIV Golf Orlando. In the United States, the Separatist League’s third event of 2023 will take place from March 31 to April 2. An event that comes just a few days before The Masters, the first major of the season which, from 6 to 9 April in Georgia (USA), will see the champions of the traditional circuits (PGA Tour and DP World Tour) meet the dissidents of LIV Golf.

Dustin Johnson, schedule

In the LIV Golf Orlando, which will be played in Florida at the Orange County National, Dustin Johnson is chasing redemption. In the first two rounds of the season, the American, who dominated the first season of the Arab Super League in 2022, certainly did not shine.

And now he aims to establish himself both in the individual competition (which will offer 20 million dollars, of which 4 will go to the winner) and in the team competition, where he will lead the “Aces GC” team also made up of compatriots Patrick Reed, Pat Perez and Peter Uihlein.

Charles Howell III and Danny Lee, winners of LIV Golf Mayakoba and LIV Golf Tucson respectively, the first two appointments of 2023, dream of another feat. In an event that will see, among the favorites for the title, Major champions such as, among others, Sergio Garcia, Bryson Dechambeau, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Henrik Stenson and Bubba Watson.

Equipped with extraordinary physical power and a very powerful swing (with a left wrist at the apex of the swing that is not very academic, but very charged), Dustin is one of the longest players on the circuit, and for three consecutive years (2009-2011) he finished in third place in the middle distance classification.

Turning pro in late 2007, he has won 20 tournaments to date, and is currently the only player on the PGA Tour to win at least one tournament each season. He also boasts four WGC titles, the second of which, won in 2015, after returning from a period away from the fields, due to personal problems.

In fact, between 2009 and 2014, Dustin Johnson tested positive for three different drug tests, once for marijuana and twice for cocaine. Following this, the PGA Tour has not issued any disciplinary measures, nor has it released the news, but it was the player himself who decided to retire from professionalism for 6 months.

In 2010 he was the protagonist of an unfortunate episode when, leading the PGA Championship, the last major tournament of the season, he incurred two penalty strokes on the 72nd hole, for having intentionally placed the head of the club in a bunker, not having recognized it because it was very ruined and in a passage area for spectators.

After pocketing the last putt on 18 thinking he was tied with Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer, the latter graduating and then winner in the subsequent play-off, he was notified of the two-stroke penalty which took him from first place tied to fifth .
