Iga Swiatek was nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year award by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The Polish tennis superstar competes for the award against Para Nordic Skiing and Paratriathlon champion Kendall Gretsch, 2023 Wimbledon wheelchair singles champion Diede de Groot, skateboarding master Rayssa Leal, swimming world champion Katie Ledecky, world recorder holder in Track and Field Sydney McLaughlin, surfer Carissa Moore, skater Kaori Sakamoto, boxer Claressa Shields, and alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin.

All these athletes, including Swiatek, were nominated for the Individual Sport Finalists category.

Why was Iga Swiatek nominated

Women’s Sports Foundation listed the reasons why Iga Swiatek has been nominated for the award.

The winner of the award is selected by a committee and the public’s vote.

“Finalists were selected based on athletic performances between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. The public and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee select the award winners. The winner in each category will be the athlete who receives the highest combined share of a public vote (50% of composite) and the Awards Committee vote (50% of composite).

Voting runs from July 28, 2023 – August 8, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. EST,” WSF notes.You can vote on Sportswoman of the Year official website.Iga Swiatek recently won the Warsaw Open in front of her home crowd. In the final, Iga effortlessly beat Laura Siegemund, who regretted she couldn’t fight more.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t put up more of a battle today, but it was a little bit too much yesterday. I tried my best, but the legs, they stayed at the hotel today. But for me, it was really a great success anyway, it was almost a win for me to be a final at all.

It’s been a long time. On such a great stage with such great spectators. I just enjoyed it,” Siegemund said after the match.
