Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola congratulated Team Europe, and in particular his friend Tommy Fleetwood who, according to the Spanish manager, "taught" him how to improve his golf game. "You deserve this Ryder Cup more than anyone else, Tommy – wrote Guardiola on the social network.
Josep Guardiola i Sala is a Spanish football manager and former footballer, who played as a midfielder and coach of Manchester City.
As a player he won six Spanish championships, two Spanish Cups, four Spanish Super Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup with Barcelona, as well as an Olympic gold with the Spanish national team.
Becoming coach of Barcelona in 2008, he led the team to the victory of three championships, two national cups, three Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Champions Leagues (becoming the sixth to do so both as a player and as a coach), two UEFA Super Cups and two Cups of the FIFA club world; with fourteen trophies won in four years he is the most successful coach in Blaugrana history. From 2013 to 2016 he coached Bayern Munich, with whom he won a UEFA Super Cup, a Club World Cup (in both cases achieving a personal record for victories in the competition), three German championships and two German Cups. Since 2016 he has managed Manchester City, with whom he has won five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, one UEFA Champions League and one UEFA Super Cup.
Considered one of the best coaches of all time, in 2011 he was awarded the FIFA World Coach of the Year among men's football coaches; Furthermore, he was twice elected IFFHS Coach of the Year (2009 and 2011). In 2020 he was named Coach of the Century (2001-2020) at the Globe Soccer Awards.
With 36 trophies won he is the third most successful manager in history behind Alex Ferguson (49) and Mircea Lucescu (37).
