The Italian Pro Tour returns as a protagonist in Puglia with the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open, a tournament scheduled from tomorrow to Saturday 28 October at the San Domenico Golf in Savelletri (Fasano, Brindisi).

Fifth and penultimate seasonal event of the Federgolf national and international competition circuit, also included in the European Legends Tour calendar, the event is reserved for “over 50s”. Among the most anticipated protagonists are also the Italians Costantino Rocca, pioneer of Italian golf with three participations in the Ryder Cup (with two successes) and winner of five tournaments on the European Tour (now DP World Tour), and Emanuele Canonica.

Senior Italian Open, schedule

In the 12th edition of the competition, the Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez will defend the title, one of the three past winners in the competition together with the South African James Kingston, champion in 2021 (when Canonica placed third), and the American Clark Dennis, who scored in both 2017 than in 2018.

In the field, there is also room for the Englishman Peter Baker and the Brazilian Adilson Da Silva, both with three successes this year on the Legends Tour and, therefore, among the favorites on the eve. The tournament, which will offer 300,000 euros, of which 45,000 will go to the winner, will be played over a distance of 54 holes, 18 per day, without a cut.

The Pro-Am will close the show on Sunday 29 October. The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St.

Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are the responsibility of the United States Golf Association. An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years.

The latest revision is effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance. The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status.

In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
