Jannik Sinner beat Ben Shelton at the ATP event in Vienna, then making interesting statements about his future. The Italian took the field with the right mentality and never pulled the plug from the first to the last exchange.

In addition to the convincing victory, Sinner can be considered quite satisfied with his service performance and the tennis offered in the key moments of the dispute. Sinner played 80% of his first balls and saved three of the four break points given to Shelton with the ace.

A sign that the continuous work with Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill is bearing fruit from this point of view too. Sinner will face Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16 of the Erste Bank Open. The Italian won the previous three with his countryman and lost only one set against the Piedmontese in Halle.

The last meeting between the two took place at the 2023 US Open and Sinner won with a score of 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. The Italian derby will start after the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tomas Machac.

Jannik Sinner: “I always think about the future”

During an interview with SuperTennis, the Italian said: “I’ve always been someone who when he felt the need to change, he did it immediately, even during tournaments.

Two years ago at Queen’s, I served in singles with my feet apart, then the next day in doubles with my feet together. I always try to look at the improvements, at the future, which is the most important part. And I think I will always do this.

Maybe I’ll lose some games, but it’s okay if I know in my head that I’m doing the things that will lead me to win in the future. I have always been like this and I will try to stay like this, because the path we are on is the right one.

The mentality must always be the right one, but it always depends on who you play against. Against Shelton you have one mentality, if you play for example against Diego Schwartzman you have another.”
