Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz took the first steps in their tennis rivalry, and also in 2023 the two young tennis players gave their fans spectacular matches. The Spanish player trained by coach Juan Carlos Ferrero gave an interesting interview to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, after suffering a bad defeat at the ATP Master 1000 in Paris-Bercy against the Russian Roman Safiullin.

Just about his rival, the young 20-year-old world number 2 declared: “Winning a point against Sinner today is very complicated. He has an incredible forehand and backhand, all his shots are almost perfect. He is one of the most complete tennis players around.

But at golf I’m sure I can beat him, even if we haven’t met yet!” Golf is increasingly becoming a great pastime for tennis players. After Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud, many others have approached the discipline. Among the latter is Jannik Sinner himself, who publicly confessed to taking lessons from Darren Cahill.

The Spaniard is expected in Italy from November 12th to be among the absolute protagonists of the event reserved for the best eight tennis players of the season. “The victory at Wimbledon 2023 changed my life. I missed the 2022 ATP Finals, in Turin, and I want to be there and give myself a chance,” concluded Alcaraz, who in this final phase has not won a single indoor hard court match.

The Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry

There are many who define theirs as the most interesting rivalry of the future of tennis, but also of the present, considering that the two have faced each other 7 times in the ATP Tour. Some direct clashes are already in history, such as the sensational 5-set battle at the 2022 US Open which then allowed Carlitos to reach the final and win the first Grand Slam title of his young career.

This year the Italian is ahead 2-1 in head-to-head matches (and in general Sinner leads their head-to-head matches) which could increase if the two meet at the ATP Finals in Turin. After the defeat in Indian Wells, Sinner took revenge two weeks later in Miami and, subsequently in Beijing, he managed to impose himself by dominating the match for long stretches.
