SIMON JORDAN: Ange Postecoglou’s speeches are great but won’t win Tottenham titles – look at Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Simon Jordan has insisted he is unimpressed with Ange Postecoglou’s viral speeches after the Australian’s appointment as Tottenham’s new head coach.

The 57-year-old has been announced as Antonio Conte’s permanent replacement at Spurs, taking up his new position on July 1.

Postecoglou has been confirmed as the new Spurs boss

As the speculation grew, supporters found several behind-the-scenes clips of Postecoglou attempting to rouse his troop in training and in meetings.

In one mic’ed up clip the former Celtic boss is seen encouraging his stars as they perform a training drill.

Meanwhile, he’s also been seen slamming his Australia stars after an error in a game.

Though, not all have been left impressed by his speeches, including talkSPORT host and ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan.

Postecoglou went from 'joke' to hero with Spurs to get a taste of Cruyff-inspired style

“If we are going to suggest that it is what is going to help Tottenham Hotspur win leagues, I think we are a little bit naive,” he said on White and Jordan.

“But, I also think there is a place for it, there is a moment for it.

“We know, having been around professional footballers, and know what they are like.

“The moment you mis-speak, the moment they don’t buy into something, and the moment they think this is a load of old fanny, it will make no difference how many different versions of the Anzac’s you can create in your mind about what they did in the first or second world war.

“It is about how you manage players, not individual moments. It is about how you connect with them individually.

“How you connect with players in highfalutin levels, not Australian footballers who are playing for a second-rate national side, great they get to World Cup’s, but not going to win them.

“Great you can get Celtic to play in a certain way. You’re moving into the Premier League now, multi-million pound territory, where they are all individuals in their own right and hold their own opinions.

“That stuff [speeches] is great, but it does have limited benefit?”

Jordan also touched on Arsenal boss Arteta, insisting his speeches did not get his players motivated.

He added: “What did Arsenal do last season when their moment came [when listening to Arteta’s speeches], at the key moment, they took 240 days of leadership, and turned it into dust.

“What did they do last year when they dug deeper? When people told them they weren’t good enough? They finished fifth, when they could have finished fourth.

“They lost the league to Manchester City on their own volition.”
